NUTRITION // Fall Smoothie // TURMERIC GINGER SMOOTHIE
I probably make smoothies 3-4 times a week and I have a handful of smoothies that I make on the regular, but sometimes you just need to change things up!
I wanted something fall-themed, and I recently bought a new kind of turmeric that I'd been dying to try out.
Turmeric not only adds some beautiful golden yellow that's perfect for fall, but also has a lot of health benefits!
This spice comes from the root of the herbaceous perennial plant, which originates from India or nearby Southeast Asia. For thousands of years turmeric has been used in a wide range of medicinal, religious, and culinary ways.
In regards to nutrition & healthy living, turmeric has long been used as an antiseptic and as an antibacterial ingredient that is effective in relieving gastrointestinal discomfort.
Turmeric is an excellent source of manganese and iron, as well as vitamin B6, fiber, and potassium. Plus, it contains a polyphenol called curcumin that is an antioxidant!
And although many more studies need to be completed, in 2012, a study in Molecular Nutrition and Food Research showed that turmeric effectively blocked the proliferation of tumor cells!
Anyways, back to the yummy smoothie I've been craving all month :)
